Israel’s Selina Group to Open New Hotel in Morocco’s Dakhla
March 31, 2023
Israeli-founded lifestyle and experiential hospitality company Selina Group is set to open its new hotel in Dakhla, southern Morocco.
The opening will take place on April 30, the Selina hotel group announced in a press release.
The facility will be the second hotel for the group in Morocco after its Agafay Nomad Camp located south of Marrakech.
Emphasizing the importance of the strategic geography of Morocco’s southern province of Dakhla, the group said that its new hotel is located in a prime location between the Atlantic Ocean and the desert, “in an area famous for surfing and it is ideal for those looking for leisure trips on the sand dunes.”
Two Israeli businessmen created the Selina Group in 2014. Since then, the group has opened over 120 hotel units worldwide, targeting travelers from the millennial generation or “digital nomads.”
'Digital nomad' is a new term that refers to people that are mobilized and able to work remotely in any location.
In addition to the Selina Group, another Israeli company is set to launch an aquaculture project in Morocco’s southern provinces in the Western Sahara region.
Israeli Minister of Innovation Ofir Akunis announced the news during the 2023 UN Water Conference, saying: “An Israeli company recently launched an aquaculture water project in the Moroccan Sahara. This, and other areas of cooperation have been made possible by the Abraham Accords,” he added.
Morocco and Israel signed the US-brokered Abraham accord in December 2020. Under the agreement, the two countries re-established relations and emphasized their determination to continue boosting diplomatic and trade ties.
Through re-establishing ties, Israel aims to increase the volume of trade from $130 million to $500 million.
